Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel declared in a speech Wednesday that every school should have a drag queen, saying the gender-bending performers “make everything better.”
THE QUOTE
Nessel, a Democrat and Michigan’s first gay elected official at the state level, suggested local Republicans unhelpfully “create wedge issues” and claimed drag queens are “not a problem for kids who are seeking a good education.”
- “Drag queens make everything better. Drag queens are fun. Drag queens are entertainment,” she said at a Pride Month education summit in Lansing hosted by the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.
- “And you know what I’ll say that was totally not poll tested, I’d say this, ‘A drag queen for every school.'”
- Nessel’s comments came as Republicans across the country have pushed back on progressive sex and gender education in schools and on drag performances for kids.

President Biden signed an executive order Wednesday directing his health agency to move to ban conversation therapy and expand access to “gender affirming care,” particularly for minors.
