UVA STUDENT ARRESTED IN SHOOTING OF 3 OTHER FOOTBALL PLAYERS

A former University of Virginia football player suspected of killing three football players and wounding two other students on campus was arrested Monday after a massive manhunt.

  • Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., 22, listed as a freshman running back on UVA’s 2018 football roster, was charged with three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of using a handgun in the commission of a felony, police said.
  • UVA president Jim Ryan said the shooting took place on a charter bus after students returned to campus from a field trip and called it a “sad, shocking and tragic day for the university community.”
  • The school’s head football coach, Tony Elliott, added of the victims later in the day: “They were all good kids.”
