Border Patrol Agents Seize Fentanyl Shipment Marked With CNN Logo

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in Texas last week announced the seizure of 19 bricks of fentanyl, including some emblazoned with the CNN logo.

WHAT HAPPENED

The deadly batch of synthetic opioids were discovered in a tractor trailer with the aid of drug-sniffing dogs at the Pharr International Bridge Cargo Facility by the Mexico border, officials said.

Weighing 44.35 pounds, with an estimated street value of just over $1 million, this amount of fentanyl would be sufficient to kill more than 4.3 million people, according to DEA guidance.

  • “Officials did not provide an explanation for why the news channel’s logo was on the drugs,” according to news reports, but drug smugglers often use corporate or original logos to track shipments and market to users.
  • Irene Armendariz-Jackson, the Republican candidate for Congress from Texas’ 16th district including El Paso, quipped: “Why were the bricks stamped with their logo? We don’t know. But this is the closest CNN has been to the border in years.”
