Former Sen. Jeff Flake said Tuesday he will not be running in 2020 to challenge President Trump for the Republican nomination.

The Arizona Republican announced on CBS News “This Morning” that he was joining the network as a contributor and he would not be hitting the campaign trail.

Mr. Flake acknowledged that he isn’t “a fan of this president” and urged other Republicans to challenge him.

Though he won’t be running against Mr. Trump in the primary, Mr. Flake, who had a contentious relationship with the president, would like to see someone step forward.

“I have always said that I do hope that there is a Republican who challenges the president in the primary,” he said. “I still hope that somebody does, but that somebody won’t be me. I will not be a candidate.”

He cautioned that any Republican challenger would have a difficult time since the Republican National Committee and the Trump re-election campaign are “melded” and working to crush the opposition.
