GAS PRICES DROP, INFLATION STILL SPIKES: Inflation remained high in the face of falling gas prices as the consumer price index rose 8.3% in August compared to the same month last year, and 0.1% compared to July, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced today. A MONKEYPOX DEATH: The United States recorded what may be its first known fatality from monkeypox virus today, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the death of an immunocompromised individual following hospitalization for a monkeypox infection.
