A New York Times focus group of independent voters offered a bleak picture of American life during Joe Biden’s presidency, with one woman describing a return to “caveman time.”
THE QUOTE
“I think they’ve taken us back to caveman time, where you would walk around with a club. ‘I want what you have,'” said Alice, a 60-year-old Latina homeless shelter supervisor in New York, per a transcript the Times published Thursday.
- “You’re not even safe to walk around and go to the train station, because somebody might throw you off the train, OK? It’s a regression.”
- Other members of the focus group, who hailed from across the U.S., agreed crime is out of control and blamed the “defund the police” movement and local authorities.
Asked to describe life in the U.S. at the moment, participants volunteered phrases like “dismal,” “burned out,” “stressful” and “lowest point in my lifetime.”
- Descriptions of Biden: “Out of touch,” “incoherent,” “clueless” and “complete disaster.”
