Maryland Bans TikTok From Government Use

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced Tuesday that the Chinese social media platform TikTok would be banned in the state’s executive branch of government.

  • “There may be no greater threat to our personal safety and our national security than the cyber vulnerabilities that support our daily lives,” Hogan said in a statement.
  • Last week, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem issued a similar directive for her state.
  • The FBI said earlier this month that TikTok poses “national security concerns” and could be used by the Chinese government to influence American users.
