QUOTE OF THE DAY: Born This Way

Psychologist Kerry McGregor claimed in a promotional video for Boston Children’s Hospital’s gender clinic that some children are apparently born knowing they’re transgender.

THE QUOTE

McGregor made the remarks in one of a series of YouTube videos touting the hospital’s Gender Multispecialty Service, or GeMS, clinic, where she is the associate director.

“So most of the patients we have in the GeMS clinic actually know their gender around the age of puberty, but a good portion of children do know as early as seemingly from the womb, and they will usually express their gender identity as very young children, some as soon as they can talk,” said McGregor, who is also a psychology instructor at Harvard Medical School.

  • “They may say phrases such as ‘I’m a girl’ or ‘a boy,’ they say ‘I’m going to be a woman’ or ‘I’m going to be a mom.’ Kids know very very early.”
  • The video series was made private after several clips, including one of McGregor, went viral online this week and drew widespread condemnation.
  • Boston Children’s Hospital is said to be the best pediatric hospital in the U.S., and boasts “the first pediatric and adolescent transgender health program in the United States.”

The Biden administration has maintained that “every major medical association agrees: gender-affirming care is life-saving, medically necessary, age-appropriate and a critical tool for health care providers.”

  • But Finland, Sweden and England have recently pulled back transgender medical treatments for minors amid growing questions about their safety and efficacy.
