TIME magazine issued a correction Wednesday saying that Democratic Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke is not “Beta.”
WHAT THEY SAID
TIME deleted and reposted a tweet of a video showing O’Rourke interrupting a press conference where Texas officials were providing updates on the Uvalde elementary school shooting.
- “The original version of this tweet misspelled Beto O’Rourke’s name. It is Beto, not Beta,” TIME wrote in the corrected post.
Conservative commentators were amused that TIME had adopted their emasculating nickname for the former congressman and presidential candidate from Texas, even if it was an accident.
- “You were right the first time,” tweeted Benny Johnson. “It’s Beta O’Rourke.”
