MSNBC host Joy Reid predicted on air Monday that without “regular people” like herself, Elon Musk’s Twitter will fail.
THE QUOTE
Reid, during a “The ReidOut” segment about Musk’s ongoing takeover of Twitter, suggested that conservatives can’t do social media without the help of liberals.
- “It doesn’t work because the thing is, they don’t want to talk to each other, they want to talk to us,” Reid said, citing conservative-founded startups like GETTR, Parler and Gab. “They want to talk to the culture. If they were where Black Twitter was not, they would be sad because they couldn’t attack black people.”
- “Lots of people were trying to get on CounterSocial today because CounterSocial is actually moderated and doesn’t allow people to attack people,” she added. “Do you see this as a tell that they can’t recreate Twitter, because Twitter without us, without the regular people, isn’t useful or entertaining to them?”
Reid and her guest, progressive pundit Anand Giridharadas, echoing many media figures, dismissed Musk’s vows to enable greater free speech on Twitter as part of a racist, sexist and fascistic power grab.
- “Elon Musk lives in a world in which the only kind of free speech is white men feeling free to say whatever the hell they want,” said Giridharadas.
OK, BUT
As Democratic consultant David Schor has repeatedly warned, the liberal elites who dominate Twitter are actually out of touch with most Americans.
- In a recent Economist/YouGov poll of public trust in TV news hosts, Reid ranked dead last.
